A group of armed criminals got more than they expected when they attempted to rob a jewellery store in a shopping centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Their robbery was stopped within seconds by a security fog system installed in the store only one month earlier.

The Smoke Screen Rapid HP unit was activated by a quick-thinking sales assistant as soon as the robbery began. Within moments the shop filled with dense security fog, removing visibility and preventing the criminals from locating the jewellery they intended to steal.

The entire incident lasted just 23 seconds before the suspects were forced to flee the store empty-handed.

How Security Fog Stopped the Robbery

Shortly after opening on a quiet Wednesday morning, a group of six suspects entered the shopping centre and quickly began the robbery. The organised gang split up inside the store, restrained the security guards, and attempted to access the safe and display cabinets.

At that moment the security fog generator was activated.

Dense fog rapidly filled the shop, obscuring the jewellery displays, counters, and exits. Unable to see the valuables they came to steal, the criminals became disoriented and quickly realised the robbery had failed.

Within seconds they abandoned the attempt and ran from the premises.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled. Nothing was stolen and nobody was injured.

Security Fog Protection for Jewellery Stores

Fast smash-and-grab robberies targeting jewellery stores have become increasingly common, particularly in busy retail environments.

Security fog provides an effective solution by instantly removing visibility during a break-in. When the fog deploys, criminals cannot locate valuables or safely navigate the store, forcing them to leave.

This real incident demonstrates how security fog in South Africa is helping retailers prevent theft and protect staff, customers, and high-value stock.
