Awesome successes keep rolling in

August was a particularly busy month for criminals - break-ins, armed robberies, looting -  yet it was also a frustrating and fruitless one for those targeting premises protected by Smoke Screen, check out our mini-stories at the end of this article.

We've been working hard with our overseas partners to raise awareness and establish security smoke as a vital part of a holistic security system and as a result we are seeing our UK success stories replicated.

In Slovenia, for example, Smoke Screen is having a huge impact on crime, as SG Biro Commercial Director Andrej Koblar explains, “we have prevented more than 50 burglaries since we started working with Concept Smoke Screen in 2009 and we have also stopped two armed robberies, that's a massive deal for a country such as Slovenia with a population of just two million.”

One of those armed robberies was thwarted at the start of last month. It was a warm summer morning much as any other for Aleksander Menart, the owner of a small jewellery store in the centre of Ljubljana. That was until two armed and masked robbers entered his store, intent on stealing away a haul of precious metal and gemstones. Mr. Menart reacted quickly, pushing the panic button. Seconds later the robbers were fleeing the store empty-handed and utterly thwarted, thanks to Aleksander's cool head and the Smoke Screen activation.

This was the second time Smoke Screen has saved the day in this jewellery store, the previous time was December last year.

This event has got the attention of the media in Slovenia with articles published in newspapers, on TV news and online, 'this really helps us in approaching the public with this relatively unfamiliar and new concept of security system,' remarked Andrej.

On the UK front, here's a quick round-up of some August success mini-stories:

• Smoke Screen prevented loss when two national mail outlets were attacked, one on the weekend of the 20th and another the following week.
• The burglary of a golf retail outlet in Kenwick on the 23rd resulted in an activation and zero loss.
• A similar story in two luxury jewellery stores in Cambridge and Ilford, both attacked on the same day, both times the thieves were unsuccessful.
• An edge of town high street store in Newark was broken into on the 28th, the Smoke Screen activated, the intruders fled, nothing was taken.
• And finally, a rare piece of good news to come out of the recent riots. As incredibly difficult as it is to maintain protection during a time of such wanton and unrestrained criminality we still managed to stop £0.5 million worth of goods being taken from a wholesale warehouse unit in the capital.
